a kitchen story . . .

I'll admit, it was hard to look past all of the honey oak EVERYWHERE when we bought our house . . . But the layout worked well and we had a vision. Now we love our kitchen! We started by finding a tile for the back splash. We looked at hundreds and landed a honed cararra marble laid in a chevron pattern. Then we painted the cabinets a light grey to pull out the grey veining in the tile (the paint was two shades lighter than the walls but still in the same color family). Although we LOVE marble counters, with two kids there is no way we would be able to keep this high-maintenance surface beautiful; so we opted for quartz and it was definitely the right choice. Finally, we refinished the cherry wood floolrs with a stain that had cooler grey tones and less orange. By painting the cabinets as opposed to replacing them and keeping the layout, we were able to create a kitchen we love and spend most of our time in (all within a reasonable budget). I never get sick of the natural stone counters and neutral cool colors:)
